The core of silicone sealant for fish tanks is 100% silicone, solvent-free, non-toxic, waterproof and mold proof, high elasticity. It must be selected for aquarium use (acid curing), and neutral kitchen and bathroom sealant (containing mold inhibitors, harmful to fish) is strictly prohibited.
1、 Core selection criteria
Type: Single component acidic silicone (aquarium specific, curing releases vinegar like taste, non-toxic).
Ingredients: 100% pure silicone, solvent-free, mineral oil free, and mold free.
Safety: Passed * * TUV/Rheinland/France A+* aquatic non-toxic certification.
Performance:
Tensile strength ≥ 1.5MPa, elongation at break ≥ 300% (water pressure resistance, crack resistance).
Temperature resistance -40 ℃~150 ℃, long-term soaking in water without delamination or mold.
Curing time: dry for 15-30 minutes, fully cured for 24 hours (25 ℃/50% RH).
3、 Absolute avoidance of pitfalls
❌ Neutral glass glue: containing antifungal/bactericidal agents, poisoning fish and shrimp, absolutely not used.
❌ Kitchen and bathroom anti mold adhesive: Same as above, toxic additive.
❌ Low cost miscellaneous adhesive: containing solvents/mineral oil, soaked in water, debonding, cracking, and releasing toxins.
4、 Key points of construction and solidification
Surface treatment: Glass must be clean, dry, oil-free, dust-free, and wiped with alcohol.
Glue application: The width of the glue strip should be ≥ 5mm, the thickness should be ≥ 3mm, and it should be continuous without any broken glue or bubbles.
solidification:
25 ℃/50% RH: surface drying for 15-30 minutes, initial curing within 24 hours, complete curing within 7 days.
It is strictly prohibited to release water before complete curing, otherwise it may cause delamination and water leakage.
Before draining: After curing for 7 days, soak in clean water for 24 hours, change the water 2-3 times, remove residual vinegar and sour taste, and then fish.
