Waterproof silicone sealant (commonly known as glass glue/silicone) is a single component room temperature curing elastic sealing material that solidifies by absorbing moisture from the air. It is characterized by long-lasting waterproofing, weather resistance, mold resistance, and high elasticity, and is the mainstream sealing solution for doors, windows, kitchens, bathrooms, curtain walls, and sunrooms.
1、 Core performance (waterproof+weather resistant+elastic)
Waterproof: After curing, it forms a continuous elastic film with a water contact angle greater than 100 °. It does not absorb water or leak, and is stable in long-term immersion in water/rain.
Weather resistance/temperature resistance: stable at -50 ℃~150 ℃, resistant to UV rays, ozone, aging, and not easily cracked after 20 years of outdoor exposure.
Elasticity: displacement capacity of ± 25% or more, suitable for thermal expansion, contraction, and slight vibration, and not easy to crack.
Mold proof: Neutral mold proof version can reach level 0 mold proof, preferred for damp areas in kitchens and bathrooms.
Adhesive: Suitable for glass, metal, ceramic tiles, plastic, cement, stone, etc.
2、 Two main types (according to curing system)
- Acidic silicone adhesive (acetic acid type)
Fast curing, strong adhesion, and low price; It has a sour taste and corrodes metals, marble, and concrete.
Applicable: Ordinary glass, aluminum alloy windows, non corrosive substrates.
Not applicable: kitchen and bathroom, metal, stone, exterior walls. - Neutral silicone adhesive (mainstream)
No corrosion, low odor, environmentally friendly; Alcohol/oxime separation type, suitable for the vast majority of scenarios.

3、 Color and Usage
Transparent: glass, fish tank, skylight (not covering the ugly).
White/off white: Kitchen and bathroom, ceramic tiles, doors and windows (most commonly used).
Black/Grey: Exterior walls, curtain walls, sunrooms, metal (dirt resistant, weather resistant).
Color: Customized color matching (minimal use).
4、 Applicable scenarios (precise matching)
Kitchen and bathroom: sink, countertop, toilet, bathtub, shower room, tile joints → neutral anti mold silicone adhesive.
Doors and windows/exterior walls: window frames and walls, glass and profiles, exterior wall cracks → neutral weather resistant silicone adhesive.
Sunshine room/curtain wall: glass splicing, frame sealing → neutral weather resistant/structural adhesive.

5、 Key points for purchasing (avoiding pitfalls)
Type: Choose neutral anti mold (level 0) for kitchen and bathroom; Choose neutral weather resistance outdoors; Metal/stone must be neutral.
Look at the label: identify GB/T 14683 (Building sealant), anti mold grade 0, displacement capacity ≥ ± 25%.
Look at brands: Dow Corning, Wacker, Baiyun, Zhijiang, Silicon Treasure, Deli, etc. (authentic products are more stable).
Appearance: Fine colloid, no particles, no bubbles; Smooth extrusion without drawing.
Not greedy for cheap: Low price glue is prone to mold, cracking, delamination, and has an odor.
6、 Construction steps (key)
Cleaning: The gaps are free of water, oil, dust, and old glue (wiped clean with alcohol/acetone).
Priming: deep joints (>5mm) shall be filled with foam strips to avoid sticking on three sides.
Glue application: Cut the glue nozzle at a 45 ° angle, squeeze it out at a constant speed, and make it full without any gaps; Vertical plane control sag (≤ 3mm).
Flatten: Use a scraper/finger (with gloves) to level it off, and immediately tear off the masking paper.
Curing: surface drying for 2-4 hours, complete curing for 24-72 hours; During this period, water, touch, and movement are prohibited.
7、 Common Problems and Solutions
Mold: Use neutral anti mold glue; If it has become moldy, it can be scraped off and remade, and combined with anti mold cleaning agent.
Cracking/delamination: The substrate is not clean, the glue is too thin, the wrong glue type is used (acidic for metal), and it gets wet during the curing period.
Flow hanging: Select low hanging adhesive for vertical surfaces; The glue should not be too thick.
There is an odor: the acidic adhesive is normal; The strong odor of neutral adhesive may indicate poor quality.
