1、 Typical service life (national standard high-quality products)
Indoor (no UV, low temperature difference): 20-30 years, almost no aging.
Ordinary outdoor (building curtain wall, roof): 15-20 years (JC/T 482-2022 national standard design life ≥ 15 years).
Adverse outdoor conditions (strong UV, coastal salt spray, high and low temperature cycles): 10-15 years.
Soaking in water (swimming pool, water conservancy): 8-12 years (long-term hot water/chloride ions will accelerate hydrolysis).
Industrial dynamic joints (vibration, oil mist): 8-15 years, depending on stress and medium.
2、 Key factors affecting lifespan
Product type (decisive)
Aliphatic PU (weather resistant): UV resistant, not prone to yellowing, with a lifespan of 15-20 years+.
Aromatic PU (universal type): prone to yellowing, weak weather resistance, outdoor 5-10 years.
National standard (JC/T 482): Elastic recovery rate ≥ 70%, stable aging, guaranteed for a minimum of 15 years.
Enterprise standard/low price goods: less anti-aging additives, easy to crack and debond in outdoor 3 – 8 years.
Environment (accelerated aging)
UV (sunlight): Cutting molecular chains, causing hardening, cracking, and pulverization.
Water/Moisture: Long term soaking or high temperature and humidity accelerate hydrolysis, leading to a decrease in strength.
Temperature (-40 ℃~+90 ℃ tolerable): large temperature difference → repeated expansion and contraction → fatigue cracking.
Chemical media such as salt spray, acid alkali, and organic solvents can corrode the adhesive layer.
Construction quality (common short-lived reasons)
The substrate is not clean and dry, with oil stains → debonding.
The joint is too shallow/narrow, without backing → stress concentration cracking.
Low temperature/high humidity construction → poor curing and low strength.
