Core introduction of polyurethane sealant (waterproof and mildew proof)
1、 Core Features
waterproof performance
After curing, polyurethane adhesive forms an elastic waterproof layer with extremely low water absorption rate, which is resistant to immersion and water seepage. It is suitable for water related scenarios such as kitchens, bathrooms, doors and windows, exterior walls, and pipelines, and can block water vapor penetration.
Anti mold ability
High quality modified polyurethane with added antibacterial and anti mold additives, less prone to black and white mold growth, and resistant to humid environments; Compared to ordinary glass glue, the probability of mold growth is lower under long-term humidity, making it suitable for high humidity areas such as bathrooms, washbasins, and sinks.
Additional advantages: excellent elasticity, following the thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate without cracking; Strong adhesion, suitable for ceramic tiles, metal, stone, wood, and concrete; Resistant to aging, high and low temperatures, suitable for both outdoor and indoor use.
2、 Applicable scenarios
Indoor: Kitchen and bathroom countertop gaps, toilet seat, shower room, sink edge, wardrobe/cabinet edge closure
Outdoor: door and window gaps, exterior wall joint filling, sunroom, pipe joints, roof waterproofing joint filling
3、 Key points for purchasing (key points for waterproofing and mold prevention)
Identification label: Anti mold grade (highest level 0 according to national standards, preferably level 0 anti mold), low odor/environmentally friendly (choose solvent-free and indoor environmentally friendly models for home decoration)
Distinguishing types:
Single component polyurethane: easy to apply, preferred for household use, cured in the presence of water vapor;
Two component: higher strength, mostly used in engineering and large gaps.
Avoid pitfalls: Ordinary non modified polyurethane has weak mold resistance, and special mold resistant products must be selected for high humidity areas.
4、 Construction&Usage Tips
Before construction, the gaps should be thoroughly dried, free of oil stains and dust. The cleaner the base surface, the more long-lasting the waterproof and anti mold effect.
After gluing, scrape and trim the edges, let it stand for more than 24 hours to fully cure, and then contact it with water to achieve optimal performance after 7 days.
It is recommended to fill deep gaps with foam strips to reduce glue consumption and improve sealing effect.
5、 Comparison of advantages and disadvantages
Advantages: Strong waterproofing, good elasticity, crack resistance, long-lasting mold resistance, broad-spectrum adhesion, weather resistance and durability
Shortcoming: The curing speed is slower than that of silicone adhesive; The surface cannot be directly painted (it may peel off); The price is slightly higher than that of ordinary glass glue
