Neutral alcohol silicone sealant for fish tanks is a single component silicone sealant specifically designed for long-term immersion scenarios in aquarium tanks. It has no release of acetic acid, is non corrosive, and has strong chemical inertness after curing, without releasing toxins that can harm fish, shrimp, and aquatic plants. It is the only safe choice for fish tanks with metal frames, solid wood edging, and acrylic hybrid.
Neutral silicone sealant for fish tank
Core advantages (compared to ordinary acidic fish tank glue)
table
Comparison item: Neutral silicone fish tank adhesive, acidic acetic acid fish tank adhesive
Curing volatile alcohols, almost odorless, non corrosive acetic acid (strong vinegar smell), corrosive to aluminum, copper, galvanized metal, coated glass
Suitable for materials such as glass, metal, solid wood, acrylic, and ceramic tiles. It is versatile and only suitable for pure glass bonding. Do not touch metal/solid wood
Aging resistance -50~250 ℃ stable, long-term soaking in water does not cause yellowing or cracking, UV irradiation is prone to yellowing, and elasticity attenuation
Aquarium safety: No acidic substances are released throughout the entire process. The seawater tank can also be used during the solidification period, and the acidic gas will fluctuate in pH. Only temporary use of bare glass freshwater tanks
Curing cycle table: dry for 30-60 minutes; Complete curing takes 3-7 days, with fast surface drying and 24-hour surface curing
⚠️ Key red line: Neutral glue ≠ Kitchen and bathroom anti mold neutral glue! Adding anti mold and antibacterial agents to neutral glue in kitchens and bathrooms can poison fish and shrimp when soaked in water. It is necessary to identify the packaging label as “aquarium specific, fish tank safe, no mold inhibitor, pure silicone”.
2、 Key Selection Hard Standards
Formula requirements
100% pure silicone substrate, no fillers, no mold inhibitors, no plasticizers, no solvents; Alcohol type neutral curing (ketoxime type has slight oxime precipitation, and long-term fish farming is not recommended).
Identify 3 points for identification
Clear outer packaging: Fish tank specific/Aquarium Safe
Label: Neutral curing, non-toxic, can be immersed in water for a long time
Priority should be given to selecting marine grade salt resistant neutral silicone adhesive for seawater tanks, which is resistant to seawater salt precipitation and does not grow algae
Color Selection
Transparent: small cylinder, ultra-thin frame, visually invisible; Disadvantages: In the later stage, there are obvious traces of scale and algae adhesion
Black: Large cylinder, floor cylinder, bottom filter cylinder, blocking adhesive joint impurities, preferred for mainstream engineering, adhesive strength is the same as transparent version
3、 Complete construction operation steps
- Substrate pretreatment (to ensure no core leakage)
Thoroughly scrape off old glue, residual glue, and dust from the glass/metal contact surface;
Wipe with alcohol or acetone to remove oil, completely dry (no water vapor, no moisture), damp glue will inevitably peel off and leak water;
Gap reservation: Control the width of the joint by 1-2mm, and apply triangular reinforcement glue (3-5mm wide) to the inner corners. - Key points for gluing
The glue gun advances at a constant speed, the glue strip is full and continuous, and there are no bubbles inside. Segmented splicing and cornering are prohibited;
Within 10-30 minutes after applying glue (neutral glue dries slowly), wipe the glue seam with wet fingers and smooth it into a smooth arc;
Two adjacent pieces of glass should be pressed together, and a small amount of glue should be slightly squeezed out. Do not over squeeze and empty the glue layer. - Curing schedule (it is strictly prohibited to add water in advance)
Curing environment: temperature 20-28 ℃, humidity 40% -60%, ventilation and light avoidance
Dry and non stick to hands: 30-60 minutes, can adjust the adhesive surface
Surface solidification, no deformation upon touch: 48 hours, cannot be tested for water
Small cylinder (≤ 60L) safety water test: 72 hours
Medium to large tanks, metal edging, seawater tanks: let them stand completely for 5-7 days before adding water - Water testing&soaking tank
Add water in batches: first add 1/2 of the water level and let it stand for 24 hours to check for leakage. If there is no leakage, then fill it up;
Soak the new rubber cylinder in water for 2-3 days, change the water completely for 2-3 rounds, and then fish in the cylinder to thoroughly release trace amounts of volatile compounds.
